The Drive Behind Absolute Power: Meet George Salinas

Originally from San Antonio’s West Side, George Salinas’s work ethic was shaped early in life. The son of a seamstress and a mechanic—and one of six siblings—George grew up learning the importance of precision, hands-on skill, and taking pride in your work.
The traditional classroom environment wasn’t the right fit, and at one point, it would have been easy for George to fall through the cracks. Instead, something important happened: Mr. Reed and the school’s administration refused to give up on him, taking the time to guide George toward a different path—one better suited to his strengths.
That guidance led George to Mr. Santos, Holmes High School’s electrical trade teacher.
That introduction became the turning point.
Under Mr. Santos’s instruction, George discovered not only the technical side of electrical work, but a genuine passion for the trade itself. Mr. Santos planted the seed—showing George that skilled trades require discipline, problem-solving, and pride, and that they offer real opportunity for those willing to put in the work. What began as a school outlet quickly became a lifelong career path.
George credits Mr. Reed and the Holmes High School administration for not giving up on him and continuing to point him in the right direction at a critical moment. He credits Mr. Santos for igniting the passion that would ultimately shape his future.
That passion grew quickly. George eventually convinced his brother, Genaro, along with a close group of friends, to join him in the trade—building a foundation of teamwork and camaraderie that still defines Absolute Power Electrical Contractors today.
Years later, that story came full circle when George and his brother completed electrical work for Mr. Santos’s daughter, giving them the opportunity to reconnect. Not long after, George and Genaro sat down with Mr. Santos and his wife over lunch, where George was able to personally thank his former teacher for the guidance and encouragement that helped change the course of his life. That moment became even more meaningful after Mr. Santos later passed away. Today, George continues to honor his influence by mentoring others and helping guide young people toward the skilled trades—just as he was once guided.
In 2005, George turned that passion into a business—starting Absolute Power Electrical Contractors out of his garage. With a loan from his mother-in-law, he purchased the company’s first truck, affectionately known as “The Beast.” With one truck, a garage-based operation, and a relentless work ethic, Absolute Power Electrical Contractors was born.
With 34 years of experience and 20 years in business, George remains motivated by leading and inspiring others. As he often says, “You won’t know everything—but if you surround yourself with good people, professionally and personally, it’ll make you a better person.”
